Charm School

I love to watch movies. They provide an escape from the busyness of my life. When I wake up, my to do list is sometimes daunting. Sometimes the list is mental, but I find that if I write several tasks down on paper, and get moving....the day is not quite as intimidating as I thought it would be. But....when I need a break, I find that a good movie is the door to relaxation. This week I've watched three great movies on dvd......The Open Road with Jeff Bridges and Justin Timberlake, My Own Love Song with Rene Zellweiger and Forrest Whittaker, and The Ballroom Dance and Charm School with John Goodman and Marisa Tome. My favorite was The Ballroom Dance and Charm School.

When my kids were little and misbehaved, I would threaten to send them to charm school. My husband freaked out a little......He had literally never heard of charm school.
"It must be a Southern thing," he said.
I replied that the world would be a much better place if every child attended charm school. I still believe that. Charm school is where we have the opportunity to learn to not only dance, but we can acquire the skills to mix with society. You know, skills like what fork to eat what food with, what clothes to wear when, how to introduce people to each other....things like that. The plot of The Ballroom Dance and Charm School was set both in the 1950's and the 1980's, I think. It definitely transported me to my childhood where I wore white kid gloves, dresses and thought the Michael in my first grade class was the coolest boy ever!! He gave me my first kiss out on the playground during morning recess!! As a child, my mother made sure that by the time I was eighteen, I knew all the rules of etiquette and graceful living. Those rules have stayed with me a lifetime......just ask my kids!!
